Standard Chartered Bank support AMH's Community Outreach Programme for blindness and diabetics
23 August 2010, Manama, Bahrain - Standard Chartered Bank presented a cheque of BD 21,000 as support for the Community Outreach Program of American Mission Hospital (AMH). The cheque was presented by Jonathan Morris, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Bahrain to Dr. George Cheriyan, CEO/ CMO of American Mission Hospital in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development Badriya Al Jeeb.
The AMH Community Outreach Programme will be part of the Bank's Seeing is Believing (SiB) initiative, the Bank's global programme to help tackle preventable and curable blindness. Since launching in 2003, SiB has helped 16 million people and restored sight to more than 2.5 million people.
The Bank's contribution to the community outreach programme will be utilized towards a diabetic campaign aimed at providing diabetic treatment to the blind and less privileged of the community. In coordination with the Ministry of Social Development, blind diabetic patients will be offered medical tests and receive consultation and advice on how to deal with diabetes. Diabetes being one of the most rapidly spreading chronic medical problems the world is facing at the moment.
In addition to Standard Chartered providing funding for the Community Outreach Programme, the Bank's staff will be volunteering their time to support the community outreach programme initiative.
