How many MBAs do you recruit every year?

We recruit around 50 Associates each year.

How can I apply for Associate or Quant positions?

You must apply online either via your school system, if your school is listed, or via our website – we do not process applications received in any other format.

Does it matter if I don't have a background in finance?

No. We welcome applications from people with a variety of backgrounds – please check the entry requirements for each recruiting business as they do differ. As well as a relevant degree, you should also possess the talents we're looking for, and be enthusiastic about making a difference at Standard Chartered.

Will Standard Chartered apply for a work permit on my behalf?

Yes, we’ll support the work permit process, however it should be noted that it can be a long and difficult process and you’ll need to ensure that you meet the criteria of the country of application before. Typically, there will be a consultant on hand at your business school who can advise on details such as minimum number of points.

How many years have you been hiring Associates?

We have a large number of employees who are MBA graduates and have been actively recruiting on campus for a number of years. Our MBA candidates don’t enter into a development programme with the bank. They take on a real role which has been well thought through to broaden their horizons, develop their talent, and challenge their thinking. In short, we give you the opportunity to be the best you can.

I graduated from an MBA programme three years ago. Can I apply for the job openings?

We welcome your application. However, please note that many of our job openings have been designed to suit recent MBA graduates in terms of our developmental support framework.

I have a Master's degree in another discipline. Can I apply for the job openings for MBAs?

We welcome applications from all candidates with an MBA and a history of proven relevant experience. For certain finance or technical roles, we would consider an MSc, but this would need to be supported by very strong finance-related work experience.

Do I need to specify to which location I would like to apply?

Yes, please specify ONE location and ONE business function in your cover letter, outlining the reasons why you feel you are suitable.

Does it make a difference which location I apply to?

Ideally, you should apply to the location in the country in which you are entitled to work. When necessary, we’ll apply for a work visa for you, but please note: some countries may be stricter than others in granting permission.

Does my nationality impact where I’ll be located?

Our selection criteria are role-based and do not differ from country to country. Ideally, you should apply to the location in countries where you have the right to work. How many rounds of interviews will I be required to go through to get the offer of employment?

The interview process consists of two stages:
1) Two 45-minute interviews with a business or HR manager
2) Telephone or face-to-face final interview in one of our locations with hiring members on strengths and potential leadership.

Do you pay for interview expenses?

Yes. We’ll pay for the cost of travel and accommodation if you’re required to travel overseas for interviews.

Our openings are benchmarked at a middle management level from where you will build your leadership capability.

How much and what type of training will I receive?

As an organisation, we’re committed to our people’s professional development, including yours. As an Associate, in your first year, you’ll receive a world-class induction, as well as lots of exposure to senior management. We will also provide you with an individual learning and development plan, including a support network to help progress your career with us.

When and how will I be evaluated once I am in the job?

We’re a successful organisation and we have a well-developed performance review framework to ensure that: 1] you are the best you can be and 2] we deliver exceptional performance to all our stakeholders. As well as regular reviews in the form of conversations with your manager, a formal performance discussion will also take place twice a year.

What percentage of management are women?
