What does working in Global Markets involve?
Global Markets provides several Rates & FX services that include financing, structuring solutions and advising corporate, financial and government institutions in their quest to grow and consolidate their businesses. 

What's so special about Global Markets in the Middle East?
Standard Chartered's Treasury department in the UAE is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) in the Middle East with a wide array of products and services. We are renowned in the region for the creativity of our products and our deep market knowledge.

What opportunities are there in Global Markets?
The opportunities are massive, given the high liquidity and relative underdevelopment of financial services in the region. It's up to us how we differentiate ourselves and leverage our relationships and credentials in the market to get a considerable share of the cake.

What do you like best about your job/rotations?
The opportunity to learn about several facets of Standard Chartered's business, in addition to establishing various relationships which have helped my integration within the Bank.

What surprised you most when you joined Standard Chartered?
The international mindset with which the Bank conducts business and its day-to-day operations. The term 'international' is overused by many big firms, but in Standard Chartered's case it's completely appropriate. Cross-border interaction and job moves within the Bank are actively encouraged.  

Do you have any key messages for graduates thinking of joining us?
Have an open mind about what you want to do. Your job experiences and interaction with colleagues and senior managers will open your eyes to the opportunities that are out there. Network as much as you can with colleagues, and build trust and integrity with them. Teamwork is crucial to your personal success, and you'll get to work with many Standard Chartered employees in the different roles you assume in your career.

What is the best background/skill to be successful at Standard Chartered?
It doesn't matter which background you come from, as long as you have the hunger to continuously learn new things, are excited by new challenges and maintain an ethical approach to your career. Then you will always find exciting roles that match your personal and technical skills.
