How many interns do you recruit every year?
We recruit interns into a variety of business functions across a range of countries. The number of interns we recruit varies from country to country.
How can I apply for your Internship Programme?
You must apply online - we can't process applications received in any other format.
Does it matter if I don't have a financial background?
Not at all. We welcome applications from people with a variety of degree disciplines. As long as you display the talents we're looking for, and you're enthusiastic about making a difference at Standard Chartered, we'd like to hear from you.
I don't have any work experience. Will this affect my application?
No, we don't look at how much experience you have. We recruit on the basis of your talents and skills - you may have gained these through other life experiences such as travel, study, research or community activities.
I have some work experience. Will this affect my application?
No, we don't take work experience into account in the selection process. We are more interested in the knowledge, skills and talents you can bring to Standard Chartered, not how many years of experience you have.
What is Standard Chartered's approach to diversity and inclusion?
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is simple - we want to get the best out of the broadest spectrum of people in order to sustain strong business performance and competitive advantage. We believe that managing diversity through inclusion will enable us to understand and serve our stakeholders better, and make us the preferred employer in all our markets. Our aim is to set a level playing field by providing a work environment where every employee has the opportunity to maximise their potential.
Does Standard Chartered apply for work permits on behalf of applicants?
We hope to be able to offer interns a place on our International Graduate Programme in the country in which they have completed the Internship Programme (subject to availability and performance). However, we don't arrange work permits on behalf of applicants and you must be eligible to work in the country you apply to.
When do interns start their employment?
Start dates vary by business, function and country, depending on the business needs and the availability of the applicant. We would confirm your start date with your internship offer.
Can a successful applicant defer their offer?
As much as we would like to encourage Interns to be flexible on their start dates, we don't usually offer deferments. However, you can discuss this with your recruiting manager.
I've applied for an internship before. Can I apply again?
Yes, you can reapply, but only if your previous application was more than a year ago, i.e. you can only make one application per year/ recruitment cycle. Duplicate applications within the same recruitment cycle will render your application invalid.
Can I apply for opportunities in more than one country?
No, you can only apply for one country. However, if you hold work permits for a number of countries, we may consider your application for another country if you're not successful in your first country of choice.
If I'm successful in the online application process, what attributes do you look for when screening for interview?
We look at your application as a whole and we select candidates for interview based on a number of criteria. We are looking for consistent academic performance and evidence of specific strengths you have demonstrated through your interests, extracurricular activities and other life experiences. We are also interested in your motivations, and what interests you about a career in banking, your chosen business/function and, of course, Standard Chartered.
If I'm not based in the country I apply to, how do I attend the interview?
The first round of interviews can usually be conducted over the phone. However, the interview format will be decided in the country you have applied to. We will confirm this with you prior to the interview. You may be asked to travel to the country either for the first or the final interview.
What reward package can I expect?
We offer all interns a competitive remuneration package. You can discuss this with your recruiting manager at the interview.
What's the deadline date for applications?
You can apply online from September - May each year. To make sure you have the best chance of being successful we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. We review each application on receipt and make offers throughout the year. We don't leave it to the last minute and nor should you!
Can I update the personal information on my application?
Yes, your profile can be updated. Just log in with your user id and password and select Change Contact Details. You have two chances to check and change your details before submitting your application. You will also be asked to check your application once you have successfully completed the talent and numerical assessments.

What browser version do I need to take the SHL numerical reasoning test?
The following hardware and software is recommended by SHL:
The following browsers are not currently certified, although you may be able to use them (but this is not recommended):
We're sorry but the test can't be accessed from an Apple Macintosh machine.
You can upgrade your browser software free of charge from the supplier's website:
Are there any other important settings I need to take the test?
The test is run using Macromedia Flash software. In order for the test to work, the following browser options need to be installed and enabled:
If you have an older version of Macromedia Flash you will be automatically prompted to upgrade by SHL when they launch the test. The upgrade is available as a free download from the supplier's web site:
Pop-up blockers and firewalls
If you have disabled any pop-up window blocking software or firewalls, this may prevent the test window from launching or downloading successfully. University or company networks may have restrictions in place so you should check with your Systems Administrator before trying to alter your PC/browser settings and take the test on a private network.
If you are unsure if you have a pop-up blocker installed or active, visit the following site for confirmation:
If you are running pop-up blocking software we recommend that you disable this before launching the test again.
Other settings to check
If you continue to experience problems or the test download is hanging on the 50% progress bar, we suggest that you try the following:
If this fails, press the F5 function key on your keyboard while holding down the Ctrl key to force it to refresh.
Java download problems
You must have Java to take the SHL test. If you can't download it (maybe you're using a university computer that does not allow downloads) then you will have to take the test on another machine - in an internet café, for example.

"My stint with Group Marketing in Standard Chartered was great! I was given a lot of responsibility and was even assigned priority projects for which I was responsible. From 10 country tele-conferences to branch merchandising in UAE, this summer was a great learning experience. I'd love to be back in SCB!"
