Standard Chartered Bank was originally established in Cameroon in 1915 as a branch of the Bank of British West Africa. In 1965, following the merger of Standard Bank and the Bank of West Africa, it became the Standard Bank of West Africa, Cameroon.

In 1986, Standard Chartered Bank purchased a 66 percent shareholding in Boston Bank Cameroon S.A. and changed the bank’s name to Standard Chartered Bank Cameroon S.A.  The remaining 34 percent was held by the Government.  In 1992, Standard Chartered Bank Cameroon agreed with the Government to acquire certain assets of the Bank of Credit and Commerce Cameroon S.A., the Cameroon subsidiary of the Bank of Commerce and Credit International.

We have two branches in two cities and employ over 120 people in the country, while about four percent work away from their home country.

Our Consumer Banking business offers a number of products and services including Wealth Management services such as cash-secured overdrafts, customised and personalised banking services, ATMS which allow customers 24-hour access to cash, and Excel Banking services tailored for customers seeking personalised and convenient banking.

We are also a core bank to over 1000 corporate clients. Our Wholesale Banking business is made up of a team of dedicated relationship managers.  We offer a whole range of Cash management, trade finance services, lending and other Global Markets products to financial institutions, commodity, global and local corporates.

Our business operations in Cameroon have won banking excellence awards and recognition such as the August 2004 Ecofinance Magazine’s ‘Most Profitable Bank in French-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa.’
