Chief Executive Officer - Islamic Banking

Afaq Khan is the CEO of Standard Chartered Saadiq - the international Islamic banking business of Standard Chartered Bank.
Afaq joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2003 with the mandate to launch the Islamic business division for the Bank. Since then, Afaq has been responsible for the strategic build up of the international Islamic banking business covering retail, corporate and investment banking, across geographies with a wide suite of product capabilities and award winning solutions.
Standard Chartered Saadiq has rolled out over 100 products and solutions across both consumer and wholesale banking. During the process, Standard Chartered Saadiq has received over 65 awards, including being voted “Best International Islamic Bank” in 2009 by Euromoney and “Best Islamic Investment Bank” in 2009 and “Best Sukuk House” in 2010 by the Asset Triple A Awards for Islamic Finance. In addition, Afaq has been individually awarded the prestigious Euromoney award for “Outstanding Contribution to Islamic Finance” in 2010 and also named the “2010 Islamic Banker of the Year” in the London Sukuk Summit.
Afaq has over 22 years of banking experience and is actively involved with governments and industry bodies for promotion and development of Islamic Finance. Afaq is a member of a various high profile advisory boards which include Islamic Finance Advisory Council of the DIFC, Islamic Finance Expert Group (UK Govt.) and the Task Force of the Hong Kong Monetary Agency. In addition, he is a board member of Standard Chartered Saadiq Malaysia Berhad and International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM), Bahrain.
Afaq holds an MBA from the University of Western Illinois and was born in 1962.
Prior to joining Standard Chartered, he was the Global Head of Asset Finance and Advisory at HSBC Amanah, and before that with Citibank for 13 years in various functions.
