Oliver Stocken joined the Board of Standard Chartered PLC as an Independent Non-Executive Director on 1 June 2004.

He is Chairman of Home Retail Group plc and Stanhope Group Holdings Limited. He is also Chairman of the MCC and Chairman of the trustees of the Natural History Museum.

Previously Oliver was Chairman of Oval Limited, Deputy Chairman of 3i Group plc and was Group Finance Director at Barclays PLC until September 1999. He joined Barclays Merchant Bank in 1979 as Head of Corporate Finance and became Managing Director in 1984. He joined the Board of BZW at its inception, later becoming Finance Director. He started his career with Arthur Andersen and later joined N M Rothschild, where he became a Director in Corporate Finance.

Oliver was educated at Felsted and graduated from University College, Oxford. He is married with three children.
