I joined Standard Chartered for two primary reasons. First and foremost, it's one of the few banks that has a pure emerging markets focus without being tied to one particular locality. Second, unlike many of the other banks (investment and otherwise) that I talked to, the Bank's corporate finance division offers a broad suite of products that cover the spectrum compared to those traditionally covered by investment banks and commercial banks. As a result, the Corporate Finance division has several product groups not covered by most banks - including Project & Export Finance.

Since joining this group, I've worked on deals in a variety of sectors (telecom, energy & power, and aviation, to name a few) and covered regions from Africa to South Asia. The work itself covers a broad range of tasks: from creating financial models to writing information memoranda, from pitching for a deal to doing analysis that will be submitted to our credit committee. If you crave stability, look elsewhere. If on the other hand, you want a dynamic and ever-changing environment, this is the place for you.
