Irene Noh

Associate, Capital Markets - Wholesale Banking

Irene Noh, International Graduate

Me

I joined the Bank in 2009 on the Wholesale Bank International Graduate Programme, and in September 2011 I started my first full time role in Capital Markets.

I enjoy interacting with my colleagues in different countries, and the Global Induction Programme that we all attended in Kuala Lumpur really showed me just how international we are as an organisation. On the 2009 programme there were 150 of us from 20 countries, and it was one of the highlights of my life. It was hard work, but it was great to learn from the experiences of so many people from different cultures. I’m still good friends with many of the people I met there.

My opportunities

The support I’ve received since joining the Bank has been amazing. The people I work with really understand the purpose of the programme and have always been ready to offer their advice and expertise, whether they are colleagues in my department or Senior Management. I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in many different projects, and this expanded my knowledge and understanding of how Wholesale Banking works.

The Bank is guided by strong values and a firm commitment to people and the community, and that’s such a wonderful thing. For example, in Korea, we sponsor a local orphanage and many of the International Graduates who speak fluent English provide lessons to the children once a week.

In my new role I also have the opportunity to make a contribution. I work for the team that helps local companies with their investment needs, to support their growth and make a positive impact on the Korean economy.

My future

There are many international opportunities and some of my peers in the programme have taken on roles in other countries. I’m keen to do the same as working in a different market really appeals to me. You have to be open-minded and willing to try new things; if you prefer to stay in your comfort zone then you’re missing out on the tremendous learning opportunities at the Bank. As long as you work hard and take responsibility for your personal and professional development, there is nothing to stop you.
