Me

I joined the Standard Chartered Wholesale Bank International Graduate Programme in Zimbabwe in 2004. It was a comprehensive programme, giving me exposure to many aspects of Wholesale Banking including Credit, Sales, Service and Financial Markets, all of which enabled me to develop my expertise and set me up for a long term career with the Bank.

My opportunities

After I graduated from the programme, I was given the opportunity to work in Qatar as a Credit Analyst for the Global Corporates team responsible for the Oil and Gas portfolio. As with the programme itself, my Line Managers were extremely supportive and helped me with my development, ensuring that I had a comprehensive learning programme and made the most of all the learning opportunities available to me. As long as you work hard and strive towards the goals that you’ve set, you will be given the support from a wide network of people and the opportunity to show your worth.

The roles I’ve been in since graduating from the programme have given me the opportunity to travel to some of our key markets in Africa, Middle East and Asia, which has broadened my horizon and demonstrated just how multi-cultural the Bank is. Wherever I’ve travelled to, I have always felt at home, largely due to the caring nature of my fellow employees.

Beyond the workplace this is evident through numerous global initiatives, such as ‘Seeing is Believing’, where we raise money to treat and prevent avoidable blindness, and have thus far helped over 25 million people globally. We also have many local initiatives, such as our volunteering programme, where all employees are encouraged to take leave days and contribute in their local communities.

My future

I moved to Singapore two years ago to work in Consumer Banking under the Small and Medium Enterprise Audit team and will soon be joining the Wholesale Bank Audit team in Origination & Client Coverage and Credit. In my seven years with the Bank, the roles that I have taken on have always provided a stepping stone for the next and this is a true reflection of how the Bank rewards its people with career progression and helping employees make the most of their strengths.
