Me

I graduated from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and International Business and thereafter pursued my Masters in Commercial Law.

My opportunities

I’ve always aspired to be a global banker, and working at Standard Chartered gives me the opportunity to fulfil my goal. Standard Chartered is a truly global organisation with a presence in over 71 markets and with a particular focus in emerging countries. At the beginning of the International Graduate Programme, we went to Kuala Lumpur for the International Induction Programme, and following that we spent a week in Singapore for the academic programmes. The training I received exceeded my expectations and gave me a great deal of exposure to senior leaders in the Bank. Every time we attended a training event, we met with all the other International Graduates from the different countries and this was a very good opportunity to build a global network.

As part of the programme I completed a number of rotations that gave me experience in the different areas that are important to providing world class banking services. Each rotation lasted four months and with so much to learn from each, you will have to work hard, be able to adapt to different environments quickly and be prepared to ask a lot of questions. In return, the Bank will invest in your development; they take the time to listen to your views and give International Graduates many opportunities to participate in different projects. What motivated me the most was knowing that the Bank had tremendous confidence in us and were willing to take risks with its people.

My future

I graduated from the programme in 2011 and subsequently joined the Consumer Banking Credit Card division as a Usage Manager.  As part of the Bank’s strengths-based approach, I had the chance to complete an assessment to identify and make the most of my strengths. So when it came to selecting a role that was right for me, I knew how to plan my career path and which direction to take.

I’m also part of the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) council in my country which consists of a group of people who oversee these issues at a local level. Most of the D&I council members are senior managers; I am the youngest member. I feel very lucky to have been selected, and I believe that the International Graduate Programme gave me the experience and exposure I needed for that to happen.
