Singapore Banking Associate Programme
As the second largest group in the Bank, Group Technology & Operations (GTO) is key to the Bank's success. GTO lays the foundation for growth across all businesses and functions by making the Bank as stable and efficient as it can be today, while building a scalable model with the right systems and people, to respond swiftly to challenges of tomorrow.
About the programme
The Singapore Banking Associate programme is a 12-month programme aimed at high achievers just starting out in their career. The programme is offered across four streams spanning Group Technology & Operations and Specialist Functions.

Programme structure
Graduates can select from one of four streams - Corporate Real Estate Services, Finance, Group Technology or Operations.
The programme structure is tailored to the stream you select. Regardless of which stream you choose, all graduates will participate in four key phases:
Rotation 1 - Induction Programme and Core Banking Curriculum (six weeks)
Get to know more about the Bank, as well core banking knowledge and skills.Rotation 2 - Deployment 1 & 2 (four months each)
Put your foundation knowledge into practice.Rotation 3 - Advanced Banking Curriculum (four weeks)
Learn the skills necessary to take on more responsibility.Rotation 4 - Performance Assessment and Graduation
Time to advance to the next level.

- Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES)show/hide
This team manages all aspects of our corporate real estate portfolio, including delivery of major property related capital investments, and protecting the health, safety and security of our staff, premises and assets.
You'll be involved in the management of a complex local property portfolio spanning one million square feet, spending time with core teams including Real Estate, Project Management, Facilities Management, Security, Business Continuity and Health Safety and Environment (HSE).
The programme allows you the flexibility to gain experience in one or more of these functions in readiness for a career choice within one or more of the following specialisations:
- Real Estate
- Project Management
- Facilities Management
- Risk Management
- Vendor Management Finance.

Every part of the Bank depends on the Finance team to prepare timely, accurate information and insightful analysis. The Finance team ensures effective control of the balance sheet and profit and loss account through independent assessment of budgets, financial reporting, systems development and product accounting.
You'll learn the fundamental skills associated with a career in Finance, gain an in-depth understanding of key drivers of profitability and build a broad understanding of the expectations of the investment community.
In country, the responsibilities of the Finance function are shared between two teams:
Country Finance covers Financial Reporting, Management Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) Support, Financial Control, and Tax Reporting.
Business Finance is responsible for providing financial services to businesses in area of performance management and profitability analysis.
Operational Deployment will include exposure to several of the following areas:

Represented in over 70 countries by the Country Technology teams, the hub of our global activity is our Group Technology headquarters in Singapore, and the majority of our global technology solutions are developed here.
If you join Group Technology, your specific roles and responsibilities could include:

If you join Group Technology in Singapore you can look forward to:

The Operations team is focused on streamlining processes, elevating service levels and exercising cost control. As a graduate member of the Operations team, you will have opportunities to partner with the Consumer Bank and Wholesale Bank to deliver projects such as:
- Process re-engineering
- Cost per trade project
- Process flow.
Operational deployment will include exposure to several of the following areas:
- Cash Management
- Client Services Group (CSG)
- Consumer Banking Operations
- Global Financial Market Operations
- Securities Services
- Technology Management
- Trade Operations.

Entry requirements vary depending on your chosen stream:
Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES)
- An undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification in any discipline, though related disciplines are preferred (e.g. Engineering, Real Estate, Building Management, Environmental Studies or Finance)
- Legal right to work in Singapore.
Finance
- An undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification in Finance or Accounting
- Legal right to work in Singapore.
Group Technology
- An undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification in any discipline, though related disciplines are preferred (e.g. Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Maths or Economics)
- Legal right to work in Singapore.
Operations
- An undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification in any discipline, though related disciplines are preferred (e.g. Information Technology, Engineering or Computer Science)
- Legal right to work in Singapore.

1. Online application
The first step is to complete an online application, where you'll tell us your:personal details

2. Online assessment
You'll then be asked to complete a series of online assessments. You need to pass each one to progress to the next stage.Numerical Reasoning Test
This test measures numerical reasoning skills in a business context, based around the tables and charts typically found in reports and the financial press.Talent Assessment
This assessment is designed to assess your behavioural preferences and help us understand your potential to thrive within the Bank.We employ a policy of re-testing and may require you to repeat any or all of our online assessments at a later stage in the application process. This re-testing will take place at one of our testing centres.
3. First interview
Following success in the online tests you may be invited to a telephone or face-to-face interview. This 30-45 minute interview is your opportunity to tell us about your achievements and strengths, and to ask us questions.4. Final interview and assessments
The day's activities typically include:Face-to-face interview
During this interview, you'll need to display your communication skills as you answer more challenging questions about yourself, your understanding of the Bank and your reasons for choosing the programme.We're looking for specific skills you've demonstrated through your interests, extracurricular activities and other experiences. We're also interested in what motivates and interests you about a career in banking, your chosen field and, of course, Standard Chartered.
Group exercise
You'll need to demonstrate how you can communicate a specific point of view under pressure whilst working in a group.5. Final decision
After the process is complete, we'll let you know of our decision within 72 hours.

- How do I submit my application?show/hide
All applications should be submitted online. We do not process applications received in any other format.
- Do I need any work experience?show/hide
We do not expect graduates to have any prior work experience. It is only one of many factors that will be considered during the application process. We assess you based on your ability to demonstrate talents and skills gained through other life experiences, such as travel, study, research, or involvement in community affairs.
- Do I need a background in Finance?show/hide
We welcome applications from candidates with a variety of degree disciplines. Entry requirements for the different graduate programmes differ, so please refer to the individual programme pages for more information.
- If I’m not based in the country I apply to, can I still apply?show/hide
You may apply for the programme from anywhere in the world, as long as you have the legal right to work in the country for which you are applying.
- Will Standard Chartered apply for a work permit for me?show/hide
We cannot arrange work permits on your behalf. As a minimum requirement for all graduate programmes, you must have the legal right to work full-time in the country to which you're applying. You'll be asked to verify this as part of the application process.
- Do you sponsor graduates for further education?show/hide
Graduates who take part in the Wholesale Bank International Graduate Programme will be sponsored to undertake the CFA Level 1 qualification.
- What's the deadline for applying?show/hide
For the majority of programmes you can apply online from September. Each programme has a different closing date, please check the relevant programme page for more information. We review each application on receipt and make offers throughout the year. We don't leave it to the last minute and nor should you.
- When do the graduate programmes start?show/hide
Start dates vary by programme. The majority of graduate programmes start between June and August each year. All graduates must have commenced by 1 September 2012, the official start date for graduate programmes.
