Supporting World AIDS Day

We joined forces with Liverpool Football Club and the UK HIV and AIDS charity AVERT, to support World AIDS Day, on Saturday 1 December 2012.

We placed the world’s largest red ribbon on the Anfield pitch during the Liverpool v Southampton match, to help raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. The players also wore Living with HIV shirts during the warm up to the match to further promote the cause.

Why we teamed up

We hope that by uniting and showing our support on World AIDS Day we can help more people know the facts, understand the risks and adopt safer behaviours which will prevent the spread of HIV.

Education is key

With no cure, education is key to preventing the spread of HIV. Many people don’t know the myths from the facts, which can put them at risk, as it doesn’t matter who you are or where you live, HIV can affect everyone.

That’s why we and the Club felt it important to educate the next generation of Liverpool FC players. Our HIV Champions visited the academy players ahead of World Aids Day to share our knowledge about AIDS and HIV.

They discussed the facts of the virus, and shared information on how to prevent the spread of infection. Check out the video above to see what happened during the session.
