Hemen SHAH
CEO, Central & West Africa and Managing Director, Ghana Hemen joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2002 and was appointed to his current role in March 2004. Standard Chartered Bank is one of the leading banks in Tanzania with a 20% market share, 6 branches and 300 employees and has been recognized as the Best Bank in Tanzania from 2002-05. Prior to his appointment in Tanzania, he was the Group Head of Strategy at Standard Chartered where he was responsible for developing the bank’s corporate strategy, including evaluating potential acquisitions and identifying new markets for entry.
His experience before Standard Chartered included:
- 3 years as a Managing Director at Scient UK, an e-Business solutions provider
- 2 years as Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at Campbell’s USA
- 10 years with the Boston Consulting Group in the US, Europe and Asia.
Hemen received his BA from Harvard University and his MBA from the Stanford Business School.
Francis MILLS-ROBERTSON
Executive Director, Consumer Banking
- Joined the bank as a Senior Manager, Marketing and Product from Unilever in 1998, where he served as a Sales and Marketing manager
- Rose to the position of Business Development Manager for CB Africa
- Was appointed Head of Consumer Banking for SCB Uganda in 2002
- Returned to Ghana in August 2007 to head the CB business
Sanjay RUGHANI
Executive Director, Finance & Area CFO – Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia & Cote d’Ivoire
- Joined Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania in 1999 as a Manager, Finance and Business Support and was in 2001 transferred to the Standard Chartered Bank - Africa Region Office, London, UK to take over as Regional Finance Manager, Africa.
- In 2002 Sanjay took up the Head of Finance position for Standard Chartered Bank in Tanzania, and was soon thereafter appointed to the Board as Executive Director, Finance in May 2003.
- In 2005 in addition to his role in Tanzania, Sanjay was also nominated as the Basel II coordinator for Africa Finance.
- In December 2006, Sanjay was appointed as the Area Chief Finance Officer for Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Cote d'Ivoire and soon thereafter has been appointed to the SCB Ghana Board in January 2007.
J. Kweku Bedu-Addo
Area Head of Origination & Client Coverage, West Africa
- Joined SCB Ghana as a Senior Relationship Manager in Feb 2000 and was promoted to the position of Head, Parastatals/Large Domestic Corporates in Nov 2001.
- Moved to SCB Zambia in 2004 as the Executive Director, O&CC. In his three years in Zambia, he grew the business by 100% and was instrumental in driving our success in the market.
- Assumed the role of Program Director, Origination & Client Coverage, in Singapore in mid 2007, Kweku. His responsibilities included the oversight for the implementation and roll out of a global CRM System across the Wholesale Bank Group and the coordination of process and systems issues across the OCC Group to ensure smooth functioning of the frontline business.
Mayokun Ajibade
Area Head, Global Markets West Africa
- Until his recent appointment, was the Regional Head of Product Development, Global Markets Africa.
- Joined SCB Nigeria in 2002 as a Money Market Dealer / ALM Manager and rose to be the Head of Trading at SCB Nigeria in 2003.
- Worked with SCB Botswana as the Executive Director, Global Markets and Co-Head Wholesale Bank.
- Before joining SCB, he worked with Kakawa Discount House Limited, the second largest Discount House in Nigeria and a licensed financial services provider
- He holds a BSc (Hons) in Finance from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and is happily married with 2 children.
Dawn Kwesi ZANEY
Area Head, Legal and Compliance, West Africa and Company Secretary
- Joined Standard Chartered Bank Ghana in April 1993
- Previously worked with the Ghana Commercial Bank for 7 years
- Barrister at Law and member of the Ghana Bar Association
- Was appointed to the position of Head, Legal and Compliance
Lucy Kimani
Head, Human Resources
- Joined SCB as a Management trainee
- Has been in the Bank for 21 years, having held various positions in HR and Organisation Learning.
- Was the Senior Relationship Manager for Wholesale Banking in Kenya until her recent appointment.
- Well respected as an HR professional across the Group.
- Was part of the pioneer group that set up the two Shared Service Centres in Africa.
- Played a leading role in Mentoring and in the development of the DSR Model in Africa.
Emmanuel MAYAKI
Chief Information Officer, Ghana & Area Head GTO, West Africa
- Worked in various institutions including, KPMG, Citibank Nigeria, Guardian Express Bank, Citigroup Canary Wharf, World Mission Agency and the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he held senior positions in Operations, Technology, Compliance, ALCO, Audit and Business Process Reviews.
- Has over 15 years of diverse experience in Banking, Audit, Consultancy and Project Management
Nana Araba ABBAN
Head, Consumer Banking Operations, SSC Africa & Governance, SSC West Africa.
- Joined Standard Chartered Bank Ghana in 1999 from the Royal Bank of Scotland with a background in Derivatives Accounting
- Previously headed Global Market Operations (Shared Service Centre West) and Head of Organisational Learning for West Africa
- Until her recent appointment, Nana was the Value Centre General Manager for Unsecured Lending, Ghana, and managed one of the most productive unsecured lending teams in the Africa Region
Buba K JANNEH
Country Chief Risk Officer and Area Head of GSAM West Africa
- Buba joined SCB Gambia in 1994 as Account Relationship Manager with our Corporate Banking unit (now Origination and Client Coverage) and excelled to head the Credit Operations (now Credit Risk Control) before moving to GSAM.
- He moved to head GSAM Gambia following the downgrading of high profile accounts.
- Buba was promoted to the Area Head of GSAM West Africa following a remarkable success in The Gambia.
- Based on his strong risk management skills, Buba was appointed the Country Chief Risk Officer for Ghana in late 2007.
Nii Okai NUNOO
Area Head, Corporate Affairs West Africa
- Joined SCB Ghana in May 2006 from The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Ltd. where he was the Head of Public Affairs for nearly three years
- Has a total of 14 years experience in corporate communications and has handled brands including Coca-Cola, Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda
- Has dealt with institutions like DANIDA, USAID, GSMF, Standard Chartered, Shell and Family Health International.
- A member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, Nii has responsibility for 5 SCB presence countries (Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Cameroon and Sierra Leone) in addition to 4 Non – Presence countries. (i.e. Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Mauritania and Congo).
