Standard Chartered’s Schools Desk Project maintains momentum
Presentation of 300 dual desks to three needy schools in the Eastern Region to benefit more than 600 school children under Future Leaders Programme in support of Ghana@50
Accra, September 24 2008 - Standard Chartered has made a presentation of three hundred dual desks to three schools namely Agyementi L/A, Kitase L/A, and Konkonuru Methodist L/A Junior High Schools in the Eastern Region under its Schools Desk Project which forms part of the “Standard Chartered – Ghana@50 Future Leaders Programme”.
The “Standard Chartered - Ghana@50 Future Leaders Programme which covers the areas of Health and Education is focused on the development of future leaders to ensure that the country accomplishes its various developmental milestones which will be showcased at Ghana@100.
Making the presentation, Nii Okai Nunoo, Area Head of Corporate Affairs, West Africa of the Bank said: “Standard Chartered remains focused on delivering on its commitment to the community as pledged under the Standard Chartered – Ghana@50 Future Leaders Programme. We are determined to lead by example in Ghana through driving economic growth, protecting the environment and, as we have done today having a positive impact on the societies where we live and work. We believe that through education we will continue to be The Right Partner to the people of Ghana in the development of our nation’s future leaders”.
Receiving the desks on behalf of the beneficiary schools, Honorable O.B Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education mentioned that:
“ My Ministry, the three schools and communities greatly appreciate the support and the contribution of Standard Chartered Bank and are indeed grateful for this show of responsiveness exhibited by the Bank. We believe that together our efforts will bring benefit to the youth of the beneficiary communities and change lives for the better in line with the development aspirations of Ghana.”Under the Schools Desk Project, Standard Chartered is distributing 5000 dual desks 50 (signifying Ghana@50) deprived schools across the length and breadth of Ghana. Each beneficiary institution will receive 100 desks. This translates into seats for 200 pupils or students in each of the 50 schools.
In the area of health, Standard Chartered, under its Nets-for-Life initiative, is distributing 49,500 Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLITNs) to prevent Malaria and support an awareness creation campaign against the disease and its agents.
Standard Chartered Bank has over the years won praise and acclaim for its community initiatives. This has been through its core and ongoing initiatives in the areas of curable sight restoration, HIV/AIDS and the award winning 100 Wells for 100 Communities Project through which the Bank provided a total of 100 bore-holes to an equal number of communities across the country between 2004 and 2006.
