Standard Chartered's presence in Indonesia dates from 1863, and we have good branch coverage relative to most other foreign banks. Standard Chartered Indonesia has five branches on the island of Java. The main branch is located in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia and is supported by the branch offices in Bandung, Semarang and Surabaya. Another branch is located in Medan on the island of Sumatra, and in Denpasar - Bali. Bank Indonesia is the country's Central Bank. It is responsible for the monetary policy and regulation and administration of the banking system and oversees all banks, serving also in the capacity of the lender of last resort in the market. The currency of the country is the Indonesian Rupiah, signified by IDR or Rp. (SWIFT Code IDR). Indonesia has neither foreign exchange controls nor prohibitions on liquidity capabilities such as sweeping, netting and pooling. Both residents and non-residents are free to open and operate accounts in IDR and in foreign currencies. Central Bank regulations however prohibit credit facilities, including overdrafts, for non-residents.
