Standard Chartered opened its doors as a fully operational branch in February 1999. Our history in the country however goes back much further - in fact nearly 46 years!
In 1954, as the Chartered Bank of Australia, India and China, we set up a branch in Phnom Penh, a presence we maintained until 1973, when all foreign banks were forced by the then government to leave. However, the obvious potential of Cambodia made us keen to return at the first opportunity. When in 1992 the country re-opened its doors to foreign investment we set up a representative office in Phnom Penh.
