Seeing is Believing
Seeing is Believing is our global programme to help tackle preventable and curable blindness, reaching over five million people in 17 countries, contributing to over two million sight restorations. In 2008, we launched A New Vision, our latest commitment to Seeing is Believing. We will invest a further US$20 million to provide sustainable eye-care services for 20 million people in deprived communities in 20 cities.
Starting from 2004, SCB has partnered with the Rotary Club of Curepipe and has conducted vision screening in schools in a consistent manner. This has lead to the identification and rectification of many potential cases over the years and we have been able to save the sight of many children. We also continually work to save eyesight and cure many corneal diseases that are treated at the S. Bharati Eye Hospital in Moka.
The staff of Standard Chartered Bank (Mauritius) Limited spent an amazing day with the children of APEIM on World Sight Day this year. Through vision screening, we have been able to identify eye problems with 18% of the children suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. This is a very high number and will now be addressed through corrective measures like Surgery, Lenses etc.
In May 2009, in recognition of our sustained support from 2004 to 2009 and as a token of their appreciation, the Rotary Club of Curepipe has honoured SCB (Mauritius) Limited with the Paul Harris Award. The Paul Harris Award is the most prestigious award that can be presented by the Rotary Foundation.
