The Representative Office in Lima was opened in January 1975 by First Interstate Bank of California and was acquired by Standard Chartered in 1993. In January 1998, Standard Chartered concluded the purchase of a controlling interest in Banco Exterior de los Andes y de Espaņa S.A. (Extebandes), an Andean Region bank involved primarily in trade finance.
