Standard Chartered hosts economic round table for UK and local businesses
Discussion focused on Qatar as a regional centre for financial and professional services.
20 November 2011 -Standard Chartered held an exclusive round table with several key British and local businesses in Qatar on Sunday the 20th of November at The Four Seasons Hotel in Doha.
The round table followed by dinner, was hosted by Standard Chartered's CEO in Qatar, Mr. Charles Carlson and held in the presence of His Royal Highness, The Duke of York KG and His Excellency John Hawkins, the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Qatar. Marios Maratheftis, Standard Chartered's Regional Head of Research spoke about Qatar and its importance in the region as well as its role as a financial and professional services centre
On the occasion Charles Carlson commented, "Qatar's vibrant economy and huge ambitions provide excellent opportunities for British firms in Qatar. There is great expectation from the infrastructure projects that are coming up due to the diversification of the non hydrocarbon economy as well as growth opportunities in the service sector. There is a positive story to tell in Qatar and Standard Chartered aims to provide Qatari and UK firms the platform to discuss these opportunities for sustained growth".
Other topics of interest included discussion around the shift of power from West to the emerging markets of the East, the impact of Europe's debt challenges on emerging markets and the changing global regulatory landscape and how this fits with the domestic markets of the Middle East.
