Standard Chartered Bank's first annual Champion of Champions Sailing Race
21st June, Qatar -The first Annual Standard Chartered Bank Champions of Champions Sailing race took place at the Regatta Sailing Academy on Friday, 18th of June 2010 run by the Academy's Race Coach Simon Kearns. The fleet of 33 boats with their coloured sails was a spectacle viewed by a great many onlookers from Academy's base at the Intercontinental Hotel and those enjoying the summer weather from the water.
Competitors included the Academy's Junior Racing Teams of varying levels, plus their Adult racers. Although a serious event to decide the 2010 Champion Racers at the Regatta Sailing Academy, some adults sailed with family members to make it fun. Sailors of all standards found the good breezy conditions challenging with top places changing as the front runners fought hard to try and win the prestigious prizes.
On the occasion, Glen Dawson, Senior Credit Officer Standard Chartered Bank, Qatar said, "We are delighted to support the Regatta Sailing Academy and launch the first Standard Chartered Champion of Champions Race in 2010 as we celebrate our 60th anniversary in Qatar. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves and a great finale to the sailing season."
Standard Chartered Bank presented the Trophies and medals at the Academy's Annual Award Ceremony yesterday, 19th of June 2010 when over 200 junior, senior and adult sailors were honoured for their achievements.
