Standard Chartered Bank observes World Water Day
Staff in Qatar pledge to save water at work and home
25 March 2010, Qatar -On the occasion of World Water Day, staff at Standard Chartered Bank in Qatar began an internal campaign that included signed pledges by employees.
With "Clean water for a healthy world" being the theme for World Water Day 2010, the internal campaign aims to reduce water wastage and spread awareness on how small changes in lifestyle can make a significant impact.
Ghassan Eid, Head of Corporate Real Estate Services and Standard Chartered's Country Environment Coordinator said, "Over 75% of our workforce have pledged to save water through various means. This is a reflection of our commitment to the environment and reducing our carbon footprint through small but effective ways. The pledges included simple tips for saving water at home and work such as taking showers instead of baths and washing cars with a bucket of water instead of a hose".
Following the successful water saving campaign, the Bank has now launched "Zero Printing Week", where staff aim to reduce paper usage by switching off printers for a week, having "paperless" meetings with laptops and projectors, more email communication and recycling used paper for note taking and minutes.
