Online Security
Security Advice
- As a Standard Chartered Bank internet user / customer, you know that Online Banking is a fast and secure way to manage your accounts and finances. However, there are internet fraudsters who attempt to gain access to your accounts by seeking confidential information over e-mail or through fake websites.
- This process of obtaining confidential information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by posing as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication is called "phishing".
How does "phishing" work?
- A fraudster will send you an e-mail claiming to be from your bank and request your security details (perhaps as part of an update or confirmation process).
- The email may even ask you to follow a link to a fake website where you will be encouraged to provide other sensitive information (credit card number, personal identification number (PIN), passwords or personal information). The fake website could also be designed to look like your official bank website.
What should you do?
- Remember that Standard Chartered Bank will never ask you for your confidential information (passwords, account number, etc) over e-mail.
- Treat all unsolicited emails with caution. Never click on links from unsolicited emails and never respond with any personal or confidential information.
- Never reveal your password or any personal and confidential information to anyone.
- Always access Standard Chartered Online Banking by typing www.standardchartered.com/qa directly into your address bar.
- Update your PC with the latest anti-virus software, personal firewall and security updates for browsers.
