Thailand - employee volunteering initiative

With the backing of its chief executive, Thailand established its own Employee Volunteering initiative, iDream, which underpins all its community engagement initiatives and provides support and initiatives across four pillars. iDream supports our Seeing is Believing and Living with HIV initiatives, but also works on environmental issues and a country project called SC Village.

iDream is run by a cross-functional committee, chaired by Ashley Veasey, Thailand's Chief Information Officer. Other members of the committee include Thailand's Head of Corporate Affairs, champions for each of the four pillars, the iDream project manager and representatives from each business unit. Each representative is passionate about their role, and are respected within the bank as a result of their seniority or their long-term commitment to community activities.

The dedicated iDream project manager has proved key to success for Thailand's employee volunteering activities. She dedicates 100 per cent of her time to driving the iDream projects, including volunteering opportunities and fundraising events. A fall in attrition levels in Thailand is attributed by line managers to iDream activities. The bank has also engaged corporate and priority banking customers in activities. Additional costs for iDream EV projects are covered by project fundraising. Corporate Affairs has worked to help maximise the value of iDream through internal and external communications and promotions, and the media value has been significant.

Thailand reached its target of 1,500 volunteering days, representing 68 per cent of staff, this year, an increase from 893 days and 24 per cent of staff volunteering in 2008. It also secured more than $450,000 of media value around its Sustainability activities.
