Our US$100 million target to help eradicate avoidable blindness

We aim to raise US$100 million to by 2020 to build sustainable eye-care services across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. We’ll fundraise through Seeing is Believing – our global initiative with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and leading international eye-care NGOs.

Why we’re raising money for eye-care

80% of blindness can be avoided. Preventative measures and treatment are available. However, 39 million people around the world remain blind. 90 per cent of avoidable blindness occurs in the developing world, affecting economic productivity in countries where we operate. By improving access to affordable eye-care, we can make a difference.

How we’re helping leading eye-care organisations

Through Seeing is Believing, we’ve raised US$37 million for eye-care projects and reached more than 25 million people by raising awareness of eye-care issues and improving access to eye-care.

But we’re not stopping there. We aim to raise a further US$63 million by 2020.

How we’ll impact communities

We’ll continue to build on our partnership with the IAPB and leading international eye-care NGOs. Together we will deliver 35 comprehensive eye-care projects globally, providing access to cataract operations and preventative treatments in deprived communities, including:

   • Five projects, valued at US$5 million each, focusing exclusively on providing eye-care for children, supporting existing health care services, and building capacity for new services across seven countries.
•30 projects, valued at US$1 million each, responding to local needs, whether raising awareness of eye-care issues, providing eye-care screenings or carrying out surgeries, across 20 countries.
