UNEP Finance Initiative

Standard Chartered is proud to be a signatory to the United Nations Environmental Programme Statement on the Environment and Sustainable Development.

Standard Chartered supports the concept that Sustainable Development:

• is a fundamental aspect of sound business management
• is a corporate commitment and part of the pursuit of good corporate citizenship
• receives an important contribution from the Financial Services sector

The Bank also supports the role that financial institutions play in Environmental Management:

• by striving to prevent environmental degradation
• by committing to comply with local, national and international regulations
• by recognising that the identification and quantification of environmental risks should be part of the risk assessment and management process
• by following best practice in environmental management and measuring our own activities against our own environmental goals, and
• by encouraging the development of products and services that promote environmental protection.

It also supports the need for Public awareness and communication:

• by sharing information with customers
• by engaging in open dialogue on environmental matters with shareholders, employees, governments and the public
• by supporting UNEP in the promotion of the Statemen.
