Standard Chartered Bank Uganda was the first bank to be established in the country, in August 1912 with one branch, the Kampala main branch.  In 1999, we acquired four branches of the former Co-operative Bank, and today we remain the  only international bank with a network of seven branches; 4 in Kampala – Speke Road, William Street, Garden City, and Lugogo Mall. The others are in Mbarara, Jinja and Mbale. We also have 15 ATMs spread across the country.

The Bank has over 300 employees, and has created jobs for over 100 Direct Sales Representatives. We are committed to the community in Uganda through various sustainable programmes, working closely with the Ministry of Health, Uganda Red Cross, Sight Savers International and Water Aid.

In the first quarter of 2006, we handed over a school to the Cet Kana community in Gulu, for internally displaced children. This project, which we undertook in partnership with World Vision, was at a total cost of USD100, 000. In October 2006, we launched ‘NetsforLife’ in partnership with the Church of Uganda. This project is aimed at arresting the spread of malaria, through the distribution of 33,000 Long-Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLITNs).

Through our Seeing is Believing Programme, aimed at preventing avoidable blindness, 2000 Ugandans had their eyes checked, and sight was restored to about 200 people. The Bank’s philanthropic work in Uganda was recognized when it won two awards from the Federation of Uganda Employers in 2005 and 2006.
