Standard Chartered is an international

We are one of 16 direct settlement members of the British Pound
Sterling (SWIFT Code GBP) same-day value electronic payment system,
CHAPS, which operates on a Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) basis.
As one of the CHAPS clearing banks, Standard Chartered has an
impressive operation with outstanding capabilities, excellent
systems and the capacity to take on additional volume without
adversely affecting high service levels.
The introduction of the euro, the new single currency of Economic
and Monetary Union in the European Union, offers Standard Chartered
the opportunity to compete with other European banks in being
able to offer same-day clearing in Europe. Although the UK has
not elected to join Economic and Monetary Union at this stage,
Standard Chartered is a full euro-clearing bank. We are also full
members of the Euro Banking Association which operates EURO1,
an inter-bank system used by its member banks (many of the major
banks operating in Europe) to clear euros cross-border on a net
end-of-day settlement basis.
