Standard Chartered's Corporate & Institutional Banking group is located in New York city and is a recognised emerging markets bank offering specialised banking products in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America to US based multinational corporations and institutions.
The mission of the Corporate and Institutional Banking group is to deliver excellent products and services in the emerging markets to Standard Chartered's US based corporate clients. These products include trade finance services, cash management, foreign exchange and treasury products, commodity finance, and structured import and export finance services.
Standard Chartered's history in the United States dates back to 1902 when the Chartered Bank opened its first office in the US. The Standard Bank of South Africa opened an agency in 1905, later merging with the African Banking Corporation's office in 1920 and the office of the Bank of British West Africa in 1923. These two agencies progressed together, with the Chartered Bank gaining the first branch licence to be issued to a foreign bank in New York, from the New York State Banking department. When the Chartered Bank and Standard Bank Groups merged in 1969, the New York office of both banks amalgamated and the new office of Standard Chartered opened.
