John Paterson is the Chief Financial Officer of Standard Chartered Bank in the Americas. John is responsible for applying insight and understanding in financial planning, analysis and reporting to support the business in delivering on its strategy in the United States and Latin America. Based in New York, he is a member of the Americas Management Committee and Standard Chartered’s Finance Leadership Team.
John has over 24 years of professional and managerial experience in financial services. Prior to joining the Americas team, John had been Chief Finance Officer for Origination & Client Coverage and Transaction Banking, based in Singapore. He was responsible for Decision Support MI for global OCC & TB businesses. This included analysis of outcomes of strategic decisions, deep dive analysis, and insights to business drivers. He was also responsible for reporting and analysis of Customer Profitability of the Wholesale Banking business globally.
Before joining Standard Chartered, John was Chief Financial Officer of Royal Bank of Scotland’s Global Banking & Markets business in the Asia Pacific Region. John was responsible for all Statutory Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, and Management Information across the region, which comprised a total staff of approximately 75 people. He was also a key member of the Asia Management Committee and Hong Kong Branch Management Committee, plus other review boards regionally and globally.
His international career has taken him to Australia, the UK, Hong, Kong and Singapore. John has also worked for ING Barings, Lehman Brothers, Kleinwort Benson Ltd., and Security Pacific Bank of New Zealand. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
