Regional Head, Financial Institutions North America
Rob Gilbert is Regional Head, Financial Institutions North America of Standard Chartered Bank. Based in New York, Rob is responsible for all North America Financial Institutions relationships. These include Banks, Broker Dealers, Insurance, Investors, Funds and Development Organizations (Multilateral Organizations, Bi-lateral Organizations and NGO’s).
Rob took on this role of Regional Head, Financial Institutions North America in May 2011. Prior to this new appointment, Rob was a Managing Director and Global Head of Insurance from 1995-2010 in Standard Chartered Bank.
Prior to joining Standard Chartered Bank, Rob was Managing Director of Midwood Securities, a New York Stock Exchange member firm, responsible for Corporate Finance activities included M&A, Venture Capital, Private Placements, IPOs and secondary market offerings. Rob began his career in banking in 1977 with Manufacturers Hanover where he held a succession of positions, including postings to the bank’s Philippine branch, Head of the Japan Desk, founder and Country Manager of its Swedish Merchant Bank. Subsequently he established a cross boarder M&A department, focused on Asian and European acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures by the Bank’s US client base.
Rob received his BA in Political Science from Virginia Tech and his Masters in International Management from The American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). He is married with two children.
