Ashok is a chartered accountant by training and has been in the banking industry for over 25 years with assignments in London, India and Zambia.

Ashok joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1998 and has spent seven years leading and building our strong Wholesale Banking business in India where he was appointed Regional Head of Wholesale Banking for India and Nepal. In his role, he drove Standard Chartered’s Wholesale Banking business to new levels.

In Vietnam, Ashok is responsible for driving the Bank’s franchise as well as the strategic agenda. He has drawn upon his vast experience in corporate and investment banking to introduce new products and tailored solutions for corporates in Vietnam at this very critical growth phase of the economy. In addition, the focus will be on helping the build-up of infrastructure and the capital markets in Vietnam.

Namita Lal is the Country Head of Consumer Banking of Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam. The Bank launched its first Retail Branch in Ho Chi Minh City in June 2007 and will expand further in Vietnam with the opening of a Consumer Banking unit in Hanoi on July 1st, 2008. The bank has aggressive growth plans for expansion in the rest of the country with world class products and services.

Namita has been with Standard Chartered Bank for 19 years, most recently as General Manager, Small and Medium Enterprise Banking in Thailand. During her 3 year tenure as GM, SME, this start up business acquired 15000 customers and grew more than 100% p.a.

Prior to Thailand, she was Group Head of Strategy and Business Development for SME Banking where she spearheaded the development of a new business model for SME banking for the Consumer Bank across 10 countries.

Namita has worked for both the Consumer Bank and Wholesale Bank across India, UK, Africa, Middle East, and South East Asia. Other roles have included Head of Cash and Trade Product Management, Head Priority Banking and Manager Non Resident business. She has enjoyed starting up many businesses for the Bank across its network.  

Namita has studied in a premier university and management institute in India. She is married with 2 daughters and her family has moved with her to Vietnam.
