In 1962, the Standard Bank of British South Africa was renamed The Standard Bank Limited and its South African business was transferred to a locally incorporated subsidiary. In 1969 Standard Bank merged with The Chartered Bank to form Standard and Chartered Banking Group Limited.
In 1985 the parent company of the group was renamed Standard Chartered PLC.
Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe became the first Bank in Zimbabwe to introduce Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in 1990. Currently, the Bank’s ATM network is the largest in the country.
